Willie DeMar Coleman, a cherished father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was born on May 29, 1960, in Newark, New Jersey, and graduated from East Orange High School in 1978. Those who were fortunate enough to know Willie remembered him as a peace ambassador and a quintessential people person, always eager to connect and share stories.
As a veteran of the Army, Willie dedicated a portion of his life to serving his country. This experience shaped his understanding of camaraderie and community, which carried through to his personal life and the relationships he built throughout his journey. A true lover of life, he played basketball in high school, showcasing both his competitive spirit and his zest for staying active. His passion for travel led him to explore various parts of the world, with many of his later years spent in the beautiful Philippines, where he created lasting memories and friendships.
Willie's greatest pride, was His belief in God and his family. He is survived by seven children: LaCoya Wallace, Andre Cephas (Camelia), Gregory Cephas, Montique Coleman, Aliyah Coleman, Josiah Coleman, and Laila Coleman. He leaves behind a plethora of grandchildren who will undoubtedly carry on the light and joy he brought into their lives. Willie's legacy of love extends to his brother, Kevin Coleman. Additionally, he enjoyed a special friendship with Erman S. Asentista, further reflecting his ability to forge meaningful connections.
Willie DeMar Coleman is preceded in death by his father, Willie B. Coleman, and his mother, Larsenia Jones Coleman. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, family, and friends, who will remember him for his compassionate spirit and unwavering love for all those he encountered. His extraordinary journey on this earth may have come to an end, but the impact he made on the lives of others will endure for generations to come.
