William “Bill” Claude Harriss went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 82 on February 4, 2023 in Charlotte, NC. Bill was born on December 1, 1940 in Chicago, IL to Pearl Lyerly and Eugene Harriss. The family moved to Salisbury, NC in 1952 where Bill took off after his junior year of high school to join the Air Force where he finished his schooling and eventually earned his Master’s degree. During his military career, he was stationed in Germany and Guam and he saw several tours of duty in Vietnam. His service time also had him make stops in Rapid City, SD, Abilene and San Antonio, TX and finally Ft. Bragg, NC. While in the Air Force, Bill was an airplane mechanic, a small arms instructor, a dog handler and a military police officer. Bill married Sharon Ruth Dunagan in 1970 and after a distinguished 20-year career in the military, he retired from active duty in 1977. He and Sharon moved to San Angelo, TX where he had various jobs and owned several different businesses over the years.
A devoted husband, he cared for Sharon throughout her long battle with cancer, until her death in 2005. Thereafter, Bill married Sally Watson Moore of San Angelo and they later made a home in Charlotte, NC.
Bill had a servant’s heart, was a kind soul and a good friend. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and drag racing just to name a few hobbies. He was a master mechanic and could literally build or fix anything. He was also a sharpshooter with any gun. Bill was the friend you called when you needed help. He is survived by his wife, Sally and is also survived by his son, Robin, wife Misti, and their children Winn Harriss and Adalee Ruth Harriss, along with his sister Pat Burris, husband Tom, and their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren, whom he loved as his own, Will Moore, wife Cyndy, Kristen Moore Love, Robbie Moore, and Roy Moore, wife Missy, along with numerous step-grandchildren.
Bill will be memorialized with Military Honors at Harrisburg Funeral and Cremation Center at 3840 NC Hwy 49 S, Feb 25th. Visitation at 1pm and Service at 2pm.
