Wayne Anthony Russell

Wayne Anthony Russell was born on July 29, 1964, to Norton and Miriam Russell in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. His formal education began at Whitfield All-Age School in Kingston, but it was interrupted when he migrated to the United States at age 11. Undeterred, Wayne continued his education and graduated from Beach Channel High School in 1983. He later pursued further studies and trained to become an automotive technician.

Throughout his life, Wayne faced numerous challenges, one of the most significant being his struggle with schizophrenia. Even though Wayne had schizophrenia, it did not define him. However, this condition posed limitations that prevented him from fully realizing his aspirations.

Although this affliction cast a shadow over certain aspects of his life, Wayne was a devoted and compassionate individual who deeply cherished his family and friends. His unwavering kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on those who knew him, ensuring that his legacy will always be remembered with love and admiration.

Wayne had a profound passion for sports. He mainly collected memorabilia from his favorite teams, including sports hats and toy sports cars. He also had an affinity for comfortable attire, frequently acquiring new sweatsuits, something he playfully sought assistance with every few weeks.

He is survived by his beloved mother, Miriam; his brothers, Dale and Andrew; and his sisters, Jackie and Jennifer. He also leaves behind his cherished nieces, Christina and Destyni, and his nephews, Travis and Mikael. Additionally, he is mourned by his cousins, Marcia, Valerie, Leroy, Patricia, Verna, Vincent, Elaine, and Sonia, along with many treasured family members and dear friends.

A visitation will be held Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 10:00-11:00 am at First Church Charlotte. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Burial will be at Rutherford Memorial Park Cemetery in Concord, NC at 1:00pm.
