Tammy (Tamara Barthlett Wilkerson) was born on December 21, 1982, in Pinellas, FL. She passed away on June 17, 2023, in Concord, NC. She was married to Clyde Lamar Wilkerson, and together they had a daughter named Quinn Harper Wilkerson. Tammy's immediate family included her parents, Jerry and Sherma Barthlett, her sibling Spencer "Lee" and his wife Stephanie Barthlett.
Tammy's love for her family was immeasurable, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She understood the significance of family and made it a priority in her life. Her devotion to her loved ones was evident in her actions, as she consistently demonstrated her love and care for them. "TeamWilk" was not just a mantra for Tammy; it symbolized the unity and strength of her family bond. She believed in supporting and uplifting one another, and her family was at the core of her world. Tammy's legacy of valuing and treasuring family will continue to resonate with those she leaves behind.
In terms of education and career, Tammy had a strong background in education. She dedicated the last decade of her life to teaching, making a significant impact on the lives of her students. She taught at Rawlings Elementary, Littlewood Elementary, and Devonshire Elementary School. Her exceptional commitment and passion for teaching earned her the esteemed title of Teacher of the Year in 2019.
Outside of her professional life, Tammy had a passion for running. She enjoyed participating in races and finding solace in the rhythm of her steps. Tammy also possessed a special talent for finding joy and humor in every situation. Her infectious smile and positive demeanor brightened any room she entered. She cared deeply for others and showed unwavering enthusiasm in everything she did.
Tammy had a profound love of the Lord since she accepted Christ in 1990. She loved her Sunday School class, worshiping, always singing hymns, and teaching Quinn all that she could with pure joy. She said so many times that her family had found their place at Hickory Grove Baptist. Her love of Quinn’s school was also profound and she was so happy to have found the place for Quinn.
Tammy was actively involved in her community and had a profound impact on those around her. Her classroom, Room 134 at Devonshire, was a magical place where children felt welcomed and excited to learn. Tammy's colleagues remember her as an exceptional teacher who went above and beyond to support others. She had a remarkable gift for providing encouragement and reminding her fellow educators of their purpose. Even on the toughest days, Tammy had the extraordinary ability to turn tears of sadness and frustration into tears of laughter. Her infectious spirit lifted the spirits of those around her and brought joy to the school community. Colleagues and friends will forever cherish the moments they shared with Tammy, as she brought light and positivity to their lives.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 10:00 am at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Mallard Creek Campus located at 13200 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.
In honor of Tammy's memory, plans are underway to plant three trees at the schools she worked at, creating lasting places for Quinn to visit and reminisce about her mother. Additionally, a campaign has been established for Quinn to ensure she can continue on the path Tammy would have wanted and to keep her memory alive.
Tammy's presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit and the impact she made will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
