Sylvia Bernadette Mary Jackson was a cherished sister, friend, and the master control Operator for WBTV-3 when it was a part of Jefferson Pilot Broadcasting Company in Charlotte, NC. She passed away on October 31, 2023, in Harrisburg, NC.
Sylvia was born on July 27, 1954, in Queens, NY to Mark Jackson and Rachel Jones-Jackson. She led an exceptional life filled with passion and dedication. At the age tender of 16, she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, NY with honors. Her quest for knowledge led her to attend Columbia Broadcasting School in Manhattan, NY.
In 1977, Sylvia obtained her first-class FCC license and embarked on a successful career as a master controller. She dedicated herself to her work, playing a vital role behind the scenes. Her commitment to excellence was a testament to her professionalism and strong work ethic.
In addition to her illustrious career, Sylvia had a vibrant spirit and a deep love for the arts. She enjoyed dancing and singing with her whole heart. One of her proudest achievements was being part of an African Dance Duo alongside her beloved sister Darlene. They performed with their father Mark Jackson, on various occasions. He is a renowned musical groups such as the Crows, Heartbeats, Ink Spots, and others.
Their performances brought joy to all who witnessed their talent.
However, it was Sylvia's compassionate soul that truly defined her character. She was a loyal sister and friend who always prioritized the happiness and well-being of others. Sylvia would go to great lengths to protect and support those she loved dearly.
Sylvia will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will forever warm our hearts and inspire us to embrace life with love and kindness. She leaves behind cherished family members, dear friends, and an extended family who will continue to honor her legacy.
Sylvia is survived by one aunt Lemma Crafton, sisters Madelon Ryals-Hardy and Darlene Jackson-Debardelben, and a brother Randall Rumph. Adopted siblings Tyrone Brown, and Arnecia Bellamy (Jimmy Bellamy SR.)
Nieces: Monique Bivens Roar (Brett Roar), Lynnett Johnson (Obie Johnson), Zipporah Debardelben, Diane Ryals, Debra Ryals
Nephews: Sylvester Ryals, William Bivens (Tesia Biven), Joshua Debardelben, Dominique Bellamy, Jimmy Bellamy
Grand Nieces and Nephews: Bradley Roar (Sarah Roar), Brenden Bivens, Evan Ryals, Leiah Bivens, Kaylen Bivens, Taylor Roar, Empress Johnson, Zenobia Johnson, Jasmine Hackney
Extended family members: Vanessa, Eboni, Derrick Brown, Velvet Wendy Smart, and Kevin Crafton.
She held a special place in the hearts of her cousins from the Jackson, Slaughter, Jones, Atkins, Culpepper, Oxendine, Gentle, Sydnor, Williams, and Brown families, along with plenty of other family, friends, and loved ones.
A memorial service to celebrate Sylvia's life will be held on November 5th, 2023, at Harrisburg Funeral & Cremation in Harrisburg, NC. The service will begin at 2:00 PM, providing a time for reflection and remembrance of Sylvia's life. Friends and family are invited to join together during this time of mourning to pay their respects. The service will also viewable via Livestream.
Sylvia's spirit will forever dance within our hearts. May she rest in peace as we remember her bright smile and unwavering love. She touched our lives deeply, and her memory will serve as a guiding light through the darkest of days.
