d. September 20, 2024

Charlotte

Robert Richard "Bob" Boratea, 92, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 19, 1932, to the late Alphonse and Lillian Boratea in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his older brother George in 1999.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Carolyn; his daughters Bobbie Young (James); Jackie Means (Anthony Earl) and her daughters Sierra, Stacia, and Faith; Betty Sheehan (Buddy) and their children Brian, Benji, and Brandi; and Teresa Monteith (Monty) and their daughters Nikki and Jessica.

Bob was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1951 - 1954.  He participated in the atomic bomb tests in Nevada in the early 50s.  He worked at Duff-Norton in Charlotte, retiring in 1991 after 32 years.

An amazing and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his family, laughing, whistling, singing along to his favorite songs, and cheering on the NY Giants, Carolina Panthers, Tarheels, and NY Yankees. He celebrated his birthday every year with his family in Cherry Grove Beach in South Carolina where he loved to swim, fish, and polish off a carton of ice cream every night. He was a handsome and magnetic man who made it a point to always take care of himself, living up to his motto: “Good looks and personality!”

A private memorial will be held in his honor.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
