In Loving Memory of Ola Sneed Hands
With profound sadness and hearts full of cherished memories, we announce the passing of our beloved Ola Sneed Hands, who departed this life on January 30, 2025, at the age of 82. A beacon of love, grace, and unwavering faith, Ola leaves behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
Born on November 24, 1942, in Live Oak, Florida, Ola was the cherished daughter of Robert and Rena Sneed. From an early age, her nurturing spirit and determination to make a difference were evident. After graduating high school, she pursued her passion for caring for others at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. Ola’s dedication and compassion flourished in her career at Kings County Hospital, where her exceptional skill and leadership quickly advanced her to the role of Head Nurse within just two years.
While at college, Ola met Charles Hands Sr. Their union blossomed into a marriage and the blessing of four sons: Charles Hands Jr., Reginald Hands, David Hands, and Edward Hands. Ola embraced motherhood with boundless love, choosing to pause her professional journey to raise her family. A role she considered her greatest calling.
Ola was a remarkable woman. Small in stature but mighty in heart, she was known for her courage, kindness, and infectious joy. Her determination knew no bounds, and she met life’s challenges with unwavering faith and grace. A devoted prayer warrior, she believed deeply in the power of faith, drawing strength from her spiritual foundation.
Family was the cornerstone of Ola's life. She found immense joy in the company of her sons, daughter-in-law, and especially her treasured grandchildren, showering them with unconditional love and wisdom. Her warmth extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of countless friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever hold her memory dear.
Ola was preceded in death by her beloved parents and all of her siblings: Leroy “Buddy” Sneed, Herbert “Brother” Sneed, Frances “Sister” Brown, and Vassal “Son” Sneed. She is survived by her husband, her four loving sons, two daughters-in-law, adored grandchildren, and a host of heartbroken yet grateful family members and friends who were privileged to share in her extraordinary life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 12th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Raymer-Kepner Chapel, 16901 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC 28078. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the beautiful legacy Ola leaves behind.
Though Ola may no longer walk beside us, her love, laughter, and the lessons she imparted will live on in our hearts forever. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, a testament to a life well-lived and a love that knows no end.
