Jessica Nicole Gunnels

Jessica Nicole Gunnels, 33, a woman who radiated altruism for people struggling with addiction and depression, passed away at her home in Charlotte NC on June 21, 2023. She was born on March 26, 1990 in Portland, Oregon.

Jessica had an outstanding personality that reflected how she treated people; she had a big heart that loved to help others. Jessica was known for her encouragement by nature and love for movies. She enjoyed watching Marvel comic movies, but deep down her true passion was for DC comic movies.

Jessica graduated from college with a Bachelor's degree in cinematography which showcased her love of the cinema and desire to direct movies. During her downtime, she enjoyed playing her musical instruments. Being a part of the worship team at her church brought her joy; On the team, she played several instruments such as drums and guitar.

Jessica worked as a recovery counselor for those struggling against addictions and depression before working as a medical receptionist at UNC Charlotte. Her career path focused on bettering other's lives and helping them cope through their troubles.

She passed away at such a young age and left behind many friends and family members who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her father, Derek Kalberg, her mother Darcy McRae and stepfather Tim McRae along with sisters Jennifer, Jina, Jael,  Lauren, two brothers Jalen and Jayden; one stepsister Sierra; four stepbrothers Anthony, Tim Jr., Avery, Cavery; and her cat named Professor.

For anyone who knew Jessica Nicole Gunnels, they experienced someone who was loving beyond measure. Her good character came from how much she cared about everyone around her. Anyone that was close to Jessica was blessed to know such an amazing person that exuded so much kindness in this world.

Jessica’s legacy will live on as she managed to make a great impact on so many people's lives, including the clients she helped and the people she met throughout her life. Rest in peace, dear Jessica.

Family and friends will honor Jessica with a Celebration of Life on July 22,2023 3PM at Think Kingdom (465 South Cannon Blvd, Kannapolis, NC 28083).
