Herbert Buxton Leith went home to be with his Lord on June 12, 2024, at the age of 97. Herb was born on July 25, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio to Maude Hege Jordan and Stanley William Leith. On June 12, 1948, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ruth Leith, and in 1951, they moved to Charlotte, NC, where they shared a loving and devoted marriage for many wonderful years until Pat’s death in 2010.
Herb served his country with honor from 1944 to 1946 in the United States Air Force during World War II. Enlisting at the tender age of 17, he was stationed in the Philippines. Herb’s professional life spanned several vocations, including managing an Esso service station on Central Avenue with his brother, Robert, and running his own real estate business.
Herb’s life was one of devotion, kindness and humble servanthood. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and never failed to thank Him for his salvation. He was deeply committed to his family, and more than anything, loved being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for his gentle spirit and infectious humor, Herb had a gift for making people laugh.
A service to the praise of God in gratitude for Herb’s life will be held on June 24 at Grace Church, 2007 Stallings Road, Harrisburg, NC at 2:00 PM. A reception and time to greet the family will follow the service.
Herb was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, his parents, Maude and Stanley Leith, his sister, Loris Miller, and his brothers Robert, Kenneth, John and Stanley.
He leaves behind a loving family: children, Pam Rhyne and husband, Bob, Skye Leith and wife Eileen, Robin Rainey and husband, Bryan; grandchildren, Paige Suclupe and husband, Roger, Elizabeth ZumMallen and husband, Ben, Kim Eudy, Rob Rhyne, Lazuli Leith, Caleb Rainey and wife, Beka, Josh Rainey and wife, Amber, Mae Rainey, and 14 great-grandchildren. While we miss his presence here, we know that he is rejoicing with his Savior in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that gifts be made in Herb’s memory to Grace Church or to the charity of your choice.
We extend heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional nursing staff and doctors at Atrium Health Cabarrus who provided Herb with attentive and compassionate care during his final days.
