Gail A. Copeland passed away, surrounded by her family in Huntersville, NC on November 12, 2016. She was 80 years old.
Gail was an only child born to the late Roy L. Akard and Kate H. Vasey, in Knoxville, TN on May 17, 1936. Gail loved people, especially children, and she spent the early years of her marriage teaching dance lessons to young girls and always had a houseful of her children’s friends enjoying her hospitality. Her love for animals was shown in the many dogs she took in and loved over the years. Gail and her husband Jim moved to SC in the mid 60s and she discovered a passion for gardening. She joined the Lois Russell Garden Club and was an officer of the club for several years. In their later years, Gail and Jim moved to Cookeville and she used her gifts of service and teaching as a preschool Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Cookeville. Gail and Jim were active members of their community and were much loved by all who knew them.
Gail is survived by her children, Gregory Stephen Copeland (Laura) of Tega Cay, SC, Greta Copeland Wallace (Doug) of Huntersville, NC, and James M. Copeland IV of Columbia, TN; grandchildren, Savannah Copeland, Garrett Copeland (Lauren), Scott Copeland and Kara Copeland; Kelsey Wallace, Alyssa Wallace and Carley Wallace; Conner Copeland; and great-grandchild Scarlett Copeland, daughter of Garrett and Lauren Copeland.
In addition to her parents, Gail is preceded in death by her husband, James M Copeland.
