Our beloved, Cherie “MaDear” Denise Askew-West, 65 years old of Concord, North Carolina transitioned on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee on February 26, 1956 to Frank Lester Askew Jr. (her “dahlin’) and Mary Louis Askew. She was the granddaughter of Frank Lester Askew, Sr and Emma Dora Askew of Harrellsville, North Carolina, John and Elora Waters-Ferguson, and great granddaughter Ervin and Mary Smith-Waters of Nashville, Tennessee.

Cherie is preceded in death and welcomed in heaven by her father Frank L. Askew Jr (12/15/03), her sister, Frankie L. Cherie was a world traveler, lived in many states yet spent most of her life in Fayetteville and Charlotte, North Carolina. She enjoyed traveling with and to her family (including Elaine Thomas, NYC) and with friends, Sarah, Lolieta and Belinda. She loved studying the word of Christ, fellowship, reading, shopping, and watching Hallmark and Perry Mason. Thanks to Hallmark she could celebrate her favorite holiday, Christmas 365 days of the year!

Cherie obtained many awards throughout her career in Customer Service with Carolina Telephone, CableVision and Duke Energy where she retired with 25years of service. She enjoyed working with her Duke Energy friends who quickly became extended family! Cherie garnered many hours as a volunteer with the men and women’s shelter.

To all who knew her she was their MaDear! Everyone was welcomed to receive her love and generosity. In 2003, she was honored as the week's “Thursday Morning Mom” from the Tom Joyner Morning Radio Show.

Many thanks to our family, her friends and the entire medical team that kept her with us for so long after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. While we did not predict this day to ever come, there is not one experience that we regret not having with our mother/MaDear. This is a true celebration of life.
