Alan Delano Williams Jr. succumbed to cancer on Thursday, December 26, 2024, five days shy of his 65th birthday. Alan was born in Charlotte, NC on New Year’s Eve 1959, the eldest of three sons of Alan “Al” Delano Williams Sr. and Ann (Vance) Williams, both who preceded him in passing.
Alan grew up between Detroit, MI and Charlotte, NC with his two brothers, Timothy Parks and Andrew Vance Williams. Their father remarried to Sue (Reyers) Williams when the boys were 12, 10, and 8 years of age, and became the one they all called Mom. Four years later, they welcomed their sister Julie Lynn Williams.
He graduated from South Mecklenburg High School, where he played trumpet in the marching band. He attended both Wofford and Mott Community College, and worked for several years on the family farm in Grand Blanc, MI.
Over the years Alan explored many occupations, but always had a passion for music and radio. He found his niche as a podcaster and later as a co-founder of Monkees Mania Radio, representing his all-time favorite band. He later thrived in his own business and adapted the persona of “Dr.Music,” combining his passion for trivia and music, serving the Charlotte-Concord-Indian Trail areas.
Alan was an extremely intelligent, fun-loving, caring big “kid”, who had an incredible heart and loved his family, friends, and fans deeply. He was especially grateful and cared so much for his long-time companion, his “Bestie,” Phu “Lisa” Vo. Alan was also a dedicated, life-long fan of the Monkees, WWE, and comics, particularly Wolverine, and the “Golden Age Comics” of the 1940s. We will miss his laugh, his huge heart, and all the time we were able to share with him.
As per his final wishes, no formal service will take place. In lieu of flowers or personal donations, the family requests donations be made to Tucker Hospice House of Kannapolis, NC where he lived out his final days.
